Cox Transit Company was purchased from Billie Cox of Springfield, IL in April 1972 and acquired 40% operating authority 5147MC, along with two tractors and five trailers. It was incorporated in June 1972 as Cox Transfer, Inc. of Eureka, IL under the ICC MC 5147. Billie Cox had 60% stock control and William Honeg had 40% stock control. Our first customers were Milnot Foods in Litchfield, IL, Fiat Allis of Springfield, IL and Nabisco Foods in Chicago, IL. Shortly thereafter three Fords, two Internationals tractors and 20 1972 Strick trailers were purchased.

In September 1973, 100% of the stock of Cox Transfer, Inc. was transferred to Honeg after completion of a successful transfer hearing before the Illinois Commerce Commission.

October 1973, Honeg acquired operating rights and leased equipment including drivers of Hinkle Transfer of Fowler, IN. and at the same time acquired contracts with Owens-Illinois Glass, Ober Nester Glass, Thatcher Glass and Hillsboro Glass to supplying Hiram Walker and Pabst Brewery of Peoria, IL with inbound glass.

In June 1976, Cox Transfer, Inc. became a unionized carrier, and later decertified from the Teamsters Union on April 6, 1994. WGH Spotting and Leasing was started in 1982 to provide Pabst of Peoria with 100% service on inbound and outbound loads.

Cox Transfer filed for and received 48 state operating authority in June 1988 and at the same time expanded into a second location in Lincoln, IL. Conquest Carriers was formed in June 1984 to provide Longview Fibre 100% dedicated service out of Rockford, IL. Cox Transfer acquired Conquest Carriers as a wholly owned subsidary in January 1995.

In April 1995, William's son, Mark W. Honeg, became Vice President of Cox Transfer and now oversees the operation.

In January 2000, Cox Transfer moved from it's home of 28 years into the present office and maintenance facility located on the west side of Eureka. This state-of-the art terminal has a modernized service shop, canopied fuel island, driver's lounge and dorms, along with new technology for all other departments.

Cox Transfer expanded it's operation by opening up a flatbed division in March 2002, and a brokerage division quickly followed. We are excited about the future of the trucking industry and continue to look for new challenges and growth opportunities for Cox Transfer and it's divisions.
